چکیده

When considering the prediction of a structural class for a protein as a classification problem, usually a classifier is based on a feature vector x ∈ R, where the features represent certain attributes of the primary sequence or derived properties (e.g., the predicted secondary structure) of a given protein. Since the structure of a protein (i.e., its native conformation) is stable only under specific environmental conditions, it is commonly accepted to assume proteins being evolutionarily adapted to specific subcellular localizations and according to their physicochemical environment. Our statistical evaluation shows a strong correlation between the subcellular localization of proteins and their structural class. The correlation is strong enough to allow for a classification of proteins into their structural class solely based on information regarding the subcellular localization. We conclude that knowledge regarding the subcellular localization of proteins can be useful as a feature for the structural classification of proteins.

Evidence for an association between Wnt-independent -catenin intracellular localization and ovarian apoptotic events in normal and PCO-induced rat ovary

The association of secreted frizzled related protein type 4 (Sfrp4) as an antagonist of Wnt mole-cules in apoptotic events has been reported previously. Moreover, its increased expression has been reported in the ovary of women with polycystic ovary (PCO). We have demonstrated in-creased Sfrp4 in PCO-induced rat ovary related to an increased number of apoptotic follicles showing nuclear ?cateni...

Molecular Characterization of the Epstein-Barr Virus BGLF2 Gene, its Expression, and Subcellular Localization

Background: Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) is a universal herpes virus which can cause a life-long and largely asymptomatic infection in the human population. However, the exact pathogenesis of the EBV infection is not well known. Objective: A comprehensive bioinformatics prediction was carried out for investigating the molecular properties of the BGLF2 and to a...

Protein Subcellular Localization Prediction for Fusarium graminearum∗

The fungal pathogen Fusarium graminearum (telomorph Gibberella zeae) is the causal agent of several destructive crop diseases. Investigating subcellular localizations of F. graminearum proteins can provide insight into pathogenic mechanisms underlying F. graminearum-host interactions. In this paper, we design a novel balanced ensemble classifier based on support vector machines (SVMs) to predic...

Protein localization as a principal feature of the etiology and comorbidity of genetic diseases

Proteins targeting the same subcellular localization tend to participate in mutual protein-protein interactions (PPIs) and are often functionally associated. Here, we investigated the relationship between disease-associated proteins and their subcellular localizations, based on the assumption that protein pairs associated with phenotypically similar diseases are more likely to be connected via ...

OprF and OprL Conjugate as Vaccine Candidates against Pseudomonas aeruginosa; an in Silico Study

Introduction: Vaccine studies against Pseudomonas aeruginosa have often focused on outer membrane proteins (OPRs) due to their potent stimulation of the immune response. Using major outer membrane proteins of cell walls (mOMPs) of P. aeruginosa and other Gram-negative bacteria actively stimulate the immune system without any toxic side effects. Moreover, these antigens show immunological cross-...
